Airport porters

Post by kagnew64 » Wed Jun 25, 2008 5:50 pm

Many times on this Board we have recommended arrivees use porters to
move luggage thru the airport. When we landed 6/6, I noticed no porters
in the baggage area. We landed at the same time as a AIR CAN plane
and I thought all were busy elsewhere. We made out OK.
However an acquaintance had a harder time. She lives in Mexico and
had to use PVR rather than her regular airport because of booking
problems. When she arrived at the baggage area there was one porter
for the whole area. She literally kicked a large cardboard box thru the
shark tank to where her friends were waiting in the lobby. She was
amazed at the antics of the shanks at PVR. At her regular airport they
don't allowed to harass new arrivals. YET!!

Hmmmm.........we went through the airport on June 30th, and there were plenty of porters in the baggage area. We grabbed one and had no trouble going through the timeshare area.

Glad to hear they are still available. We must have caught them at a
busy time and they were all helping other travellers.

How much do you pay an airport porter? Is it comparable to porter in the US?

I guess we don't have luggage that is difficult to manage. We just tend to ignore any of the calls from the timeshare people and they don't bother us.

When I arrived in Mid Oct. my plane was delayed for 2 hrs and apparently all the porters went home except for one. He was so busy helping people who had tons of boxes and luggage, I did a great demonstration of my soccer playing skills with one of my suitcases, from the luggage carousel to the customs area. At the customs area I guess they felt sorry for me and waved me through, then I soccer kicked my suitcase all the way to the taxis. One of the timeshare sharks grabbed my suitcase and started to pull it along for me until I told him I didn't want his "free ride" and was going to catch a taxi.

That was the first time in all of my trips to PV that the porters had gone home.
