Grocery stop w/taxi

Post by rukool » Tue Mar 30, 2010 1:13 am

Would it be advisable to stop at Walmart for groceries on the way to our condo at Playas Gemelas or pay for another cab to come back? There are 3 of us.

If you mean stopping on the way from the airport with three people, just go where you're going, then send someone with a list.

When it comes to cabs going to or from grocery stores, we see locals take a bus to the stores, a cab back. Buses are now 6.5 pesos in the city proper, cabs 80 pesos, plus tip. That's less than a $7 US difference, but it matters.

Consider other groceries stores, such as Soriana and Mega.

Oneistwo has some good advice.

If you want to pick up a few essentials on your way to the condo, you know.... tequila, limes, tortilla chips, and guacamole ingredients....coffee and milk for the morning......you can ask the driver to stop. There is a Soriana store on the west side of the highway, which is easier than going to Walmart. One person stays in the car, and the other two divide and conquer. Since most taxi drivers don't speak alot of English, you will likely need to know some Spanish to ask if he will stop for "5 minutes."

We always buy some cold beer for the drive, just to get started!!

Have a blast!
