i remember reading posts from a couple years ago saying that you could buy a purple bracelet downtown and get into all of the clubs for about 35 dollars. does anyoneknow if this is still offered?

Most of these offers are still available through tour operators however most of the time you'll have to contact someone on the street that is a representative of the group of clubs offering these specials.
Señor Frog's is the best place to hang out at night time to find such people.

These bracelets are usually a rip off. None of the bars on the malecon charge a cover. Don't fall for the deal at your hotel that charges 100 pesos for a trip to Hilo, Zoo, Carlos, Frogs. They usually say cover, a drink, and a cab ride for 100 pesos. The cab costs about 40 pesos, there is no cover, and you get a little drink.

wanttogotopv...depends on where you're staying and what the cost of the bracelet is...I know there are some offered from the Nuevo resorts that are 200 pesos ($20 usd) that include transportation, three bars and two drinks in each bar and a t-shirt...that's a bargain (they also mention no cover, but there is no cover...what it means is that you bypass any lineups)...basically your paying for the transportation and you get the drinks and t-shirt and VIP entrance for free...well worth checking out...sonofdob.
