Looking for nightlife geared to the 35 and up crowd and would love some tips on great fun restaurants!

1400 restaurants in the bay area in and around PV, so maybe some more info and we can point you in some directions. You can eat like queens on the cheap or go really upscale - PV dining covers the gamut.
To be honest I like both. I don't mind having one fancy schmanzy meal and then again the best mexican food I've had is in some little restaurant where no one spoke english and I didn't speak spanish. Any suggestions for both? Keeping in mind grilled whole red snapper and maybe some nice shrimp? Would also love to find a good cheap restaurant close to the Holiday Inn Sea Towers for breakfast. Am hungry for some home made refriend beans, huevos mexicana and fresh squeezed orange juice, cheap!

Best place I've had it other than grilled on a stick on the beach, was Mariscos Tinos in Pitillal, just east of the hotel zone. Great place for shrimp too.
Another good choice is Tony's in Mismaloya. Everything is incredibly fresh there, and very reasonable.
As far as shrimp goes - it's served almost everywhere in every imaginable form. My personal favourites are the coconut shrimp at both Cafe Bohemio and La Playita at the Lindo Mar, the Wiri Shrimp at Mariscos Polo, the bacon wrapped cheese stuffed shrimp at Machi's BBQ, the breaded shrimp at Mariscos Polo (the homemade tartar sauce is incredible) the Shrimp Trastamal at El Brujo, the garlic shrimp at the Burro Bar, or the good old fashioned shrimp on a stick on Los Muertos beach.
There are 1400 restaurants on the bay, and almost all of them serve snapper and shrimp in one form or another, or in multiple varieties. Hard to nail down "best", as that would be somewhat subjective depending on where people have eaten it. That said, I've never eaten snapper or shrimp anywhere in PV where it was bad. 14 trips in 9 years, I've eaten my fair share of pescado y camarones around those parts.

We seek the red snapper every year and often supply does not meet demand. But Mariscos Polo is where we start the quest. Francisco Madero # 376. Hector's Sunset (just north of downtown before the Sheraton, in the fenced-in area otherwise wiped out by Kenna) is another favorite seafood place, but I can't recall if we had snapper there, since we've had it just about everywhere.
Mariscos Tino used to be one of our favorites, but a couple years ago they whittled their menu a bit and we figured we might as well stay downtown. It's still a great place to take a big group, even if you need two cabs.
I also recommend trying the local octopus, esp. if you've never had it before or if you tried it somewhere and it was rubbery. You will be pleased.
For breakfast, it may be a bit of a hike (or a quick bus ride) from the Holiday Inn, but at the southern end of the Hotel Zone, there's our all-time favorite, Los Alcatraces, opposite the Mega store. The it's run by and frequented by locals, and the food is great.
Last year we decided Cuates y Cuetes is our new favorite hangout, sufficiently raucous, yet hospitable. And a mostly over-35 crowd.*
*Yikes, that reminds me. Next time we're there, I'll be in the over-60 crowd.

at velas vallarta, we walked the beach north past the airport runway
and eventually came to a series of palapa restaurants on beach.
not only did we eat 'whole red snapper', but we were escorted to
kitchen area to select our fish from a chest freezer, then watch as
it was cleaned, then bbq'ed over wood fire.
toes in sand / plastic tables & chairs / fabulous food.
i guess if you were to drive there you'd go north around airport, then
stay as close to runway as roads would let you until you hit the beach.

Wow!! Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm really loving this forum. Such a great way to get advice from people who have been there. Now if only I could stay longer!! At least I know Bucerias has some good restaurants too so it will be a great two weeks! Might have to loosen up the belt when I get home!
