Puerto Vallarta, second in the nation in occupancy during Easter Week

During the Holy Week vacation week, Puerto Vallarta ranked second in national hotel occupancy, according to data collected by the Datatur portal of the Federal Tourism Secretariat. This week, which ran from March 25th to March 31st, 2024, saw Cancun emerge as the destination with the highest hotel occupancy, reaching an impressive 87.5%, closely followed by Puerto Vallarta with 87.1%, and Los Cabos with a respectable 86.2%.

Prior to these figures, the Sectur had forecasted that Puerto Vallarta would lead in hotel occupancy during the vacation period. However, formal results from Easter Week are needed to confirm the accuracy of this forecast.

Overall, during the 13th week of the year, a total of 12 tourist destinations reached a weighted occupancy level of 65.9%. The list includes both beach destinations and inland cities, with Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos leading in hotel occupancy.

Cancun, compared to the same period of the previous year, experienced a notable increase of 11.1% in hotel occupancy, while Puerto Vallarta saw an increase of 11.0%. It is important to note that these data are specific to the week before Easter Week, which was week 12 of the year, from March 18th to March 24th, during which Puerto Vallarta had a slight decrease in occupancy, averaging 73.3%, while Cancun and Los Cabos remained above 82%.

In addition to coastal destinations, the list also included Querétaro with 68%, Puebla with 59.4%, Mexico City with 57.9%, Villahermosa with 53.8%, San Miguel de Allende with 52%, Aguascalientes with 49.6%, Tuxtla Gutiérrez with 47.6%, and San Cristóbal de las Casas with a modest 36.9%.

These data demonstrate the strong attraction that both Cancun and Puerto Vallarta exert on tourists during Holy Week vacations, consolidating themselves as leading tourist destinations nationally.
