Inauguration of Mexicali-Puerto Vallarta flight with Volaris

162 passengers arrived on the Volaris airline’s Mexicali-Puerto Vallarta route via the Barbie aircraft, and they were greeted by the local mariachi music and some gifts from Mexicali and the Riviera Nayarit.

The director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, Luis Villase or Nolasco, made the following announcement: this flight will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays. The Culiacán-Puerto Vallarta route will also be introduced on the same day at 6 o’clock in the evening with the same frequency.

“Especially with Mexicali, it strengthens all the influx that comes from California, not to mention that this same airline has between three and four daily flights to Tijuana, so this gives us greater coverage with this flight, allowing more people from Southern California and Arizona to travel to the destination,” the airline said.

Nanci Aidé Lomel, head of market development at Volaris, on the other hand, expressed her joy at the recent introduction of three flights from Mexicali, Culiacán, and Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta. She also noted that Jalisco is a crucial state, with the company operating 59 flights and allocating 36 of its aircraft to the region’s market.

She emphasized that, with 10 lines already in use, Puerto Vallarta is a crucial location for Volaris. “We began operations here in 2006, and this location has served as a connecting point for all of our efforts because Volaris is the top airline and Jalisco is one of the world’s busiest hubs. It’s important because this state has 59 routes connecting this region, 10 of which originate in Vallarta.

earliest period of the year
Over 3.6 million domestic and foreign travellers passed through the Puerto Vallarta International Airport during the first half of 2023. In comparison to the same period in 2022, this is a 17.2% increase, according to the monthly report from the Pacific Airport Group (GAP).

Puerto Vallarta saw a 12.6% rise in domestic air passenger traffic in June to 260,000, compared to the same month in 2022. From January to June 2023, there were more than one million visitors.

In terms of the foreign market, the airport handled about 248,000 passengers last month, which is a little fewer than the 273,900 passengers expected in 2022. However, the overall number of foreign visitors has surpassed 2.26 million in the year’s first six months of total counting.
