Puerto Vallarta starts the year as the second destination with the highest occupancy rate

Only the titan of the Mexican Caribbean, Cancun, outperformed Puerto Vallarta in terms of hotel occupancy percentage during the first week of January 2023, from the 2nd to the 8th, with Los Cabos coming in third.

Cancun had an impressive occupancy rate of 83.8%, Puerto Vallarta had a great rate of 81.8%, and southern California had a somewhat lower occupancy rate of 75.4%.

Nearly 84% of Cancun’s over 40.000 hotel rooms were occupied, an increase of 11.7% from the 72.1% recorded during the same period in 2022.

According to research by the Federal Secretariat of Tourism, Puerto Vallarta is not far behind Los Cabos, Mexico City, and Queretaro in terms of tourist demand, but the Mexican Caribbean resorts lead the pack overall.

Hotels in Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres have already received bookings through March, primarily from Canadian and American travelers, but occupancy rates will rise as the trip dates approach.

Recall that SECTUR attended Fitur 2023 in Madrid, Spain, which ended this Sunday, where representatives met with some of their counterparts from Latin America as well as airline executives in order to strengthen cooperation ties that will increase the flow of tourists between the countries in the region and strengthen air connectivity, a pillar of the industry.

In order to secure agreements that will increase both investment in Mexico and the entrance of tourists from this crucial source market, they also met with Spanish tour operators and tourism business owners.
