It’s Sea Turtle Nesting Season in Vallarta

It’s that time of year again! The sea turtle nesting season has begun in Puerto Vallarta, stretching from July to December. This marks the heartwarming release of hundreds of baby turtles back into the ocean.

Olive Ridley, Hawksbill, and Leatherback turtles, all endangered species, find safe haven on the Mexican Pacific coast to lay their eggs. Conservation programs in Puerto Vallarta play a crucial role in protecting these majestic creatures.

Several hotels in the bay, like Marriott and Hyatt, boast dedicated turtle camps. Here, nests are carefully monitored until the eggs hatch. Guests can then participate in a once-in-a-lifetime experience – releasing the newborn hatchlings into the ocean, watching them begin their journey in the vast sea.

Turtle releases are free and open to the public, taking place in the beautiful hours before sunset throughout the summer and fall months.
