Sunday, March 1, is the date for 'Music Under the Stars', a musical event in benefit of IAMPV, ‘a non-profit, music education institute dedicated to enriching the lives of all of those in the Banderas Bay Area and Mexico.’
The March 1 event will feature all types of music, from Jazz and classical to traditional Mexican music, and even Rock/Pop. Some of IAMPV's students groups will be showcased, including the beginning orchestra, the string quartet, and the Salty Paw Jazz group. There will also be performances by a variety of professional musicians who are affiliated with IAMPV - a classical trio (Klaus Liebetanz, Jean-Guy Comeau and Mary MacLachlan), Patsy Meyer, "Tajin," and a Rock and Roll group playing music for dancing.
Celebrating all of the music of the Bay of Banderas, the 'Music Under the Stars' event will be held at the school's new home, The Gourmet Station, which they share with the University of Guadalajara culinary school. It is located at the N.E. corner of Libramiento and Francisco Villa and has plenty of parking.
Tickets, available at iampv.org or at the door, are $600 Pesos and include a welcome drink plus pizza. There will also be a cash bar, a 50/50 draw, a silent auction of some local artists' works, and lots of great music for dancing! Come out and have some fun, take a tour of IAMPV's new school, and support music education for the children of Puerto Vallarta.
Event proceeds will help the Institute of Musical Arts finance the educational and musical projects that comprise it, like the Vallarta Symphony Orchestra, Flute Ensemble and the Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra, which is a student Big Band group that has been performing throughout the entire Banderas Bay area.

The Music Festival is a cornerstone event that has contributed to San Pancho being recognized as “the Cultural Heart of Riviera Nayarit” for the last 10 years. The Festival is held in the Plaza del Sol, across from the church in San Pancho, Nayarit.
We have made a few changes this year that you may notice. In remembrance of our dear friend and fellow musician Dave Fisher, we have named the principal stage in the plaza the “Dave Fisher Stage.” To help us remember the Festival’s roots, we have named the original plaza stage the “Puerco’s Garden Stage.” We have a number of new groups performing this year, including Ahi Na’ Ma, Batala San Pancho, Bryan Spainhower, Trio Veracruzano, Trio Tres Aires, The Simon Lusby Band, Trem de Minas.
We work on a shoestring budget and depend greatly on the unpaid hours of our Festival committee and volunteers, but donations are the only way for us to cover operational expenses, such as an honorarium for every musician, sound and light equipment rental, design and promotion, security, cleanup, food and drinks for the musicians, etc.
Check out the full festival schedule HERE.
