Puerto Vallarta hosts the first GLTA tennis tournament in Mexico

The first edition of the Coconutz Puerto Vallarta 2024 tournament will take place as part of the GLTA World Tour circuit, a global tennis competition spanning Europe, Asia, Australia, the United States, Canada, Mexico, and South America.

The competition consists of various categories: singles, doubles, and categorized, with the Open category being the highest level, followed by A representing a high level, B intermediate, and C lower level.

Coconutz Puerto Vallarta 2024 will be held from March 14th to 17th at the Parota park courts, with free entry. Game times will be from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm Thursday through Saturday, and Sunday will start at 10:00 am with the grand final.

Among the tournament activities, there will be a reception to inform participants about the championship details, as well as a closing party with a Mexican theme on the terrace of the Grand Miramar hotel, where the stunning views of the bay will be the backdrop for the competitors.

The tournament will feature the participation of 130 players from various nationalities, including Americans, Canadians, Australians, Filipinos, Germans, Armenians, English, Irish, Dutch, South Africans, Costa Ricans, Puerto Ricans, Jamaicans, Malaysians, Indians, Peruvians, and of course, Mexicans.

Although the acronym GLTA refers to the gay and lesbian community, this association promotes inclusion, so the invitation is open to the entire LGBTQ+ community as well as heterosexuals who wish to participate.

Despite not being a professional tennis association, many of its members have a high level of performance, so a very competitive level of play is expected. Coconutz Puerto Vallarta 2024 will take place in a 100% family-friendly and sports-oriented environment, with food and beverage sales for attendees.

Rodrigo Velázquez Mendiolea, tournament director, commented: “This is the first edition of an official GLTA tournament in Mexico; it is a globally recognized tennis organization in the community that will generate a positive economic impact for Puerto Vallarta through flights, accommodations, food consumption, and local transportation for participating players and their supporters.”

With the celebration of this first edition, Puerto Vallarta consolidates its position as the leading beach destination for organizing sports events and for the LGBTQ+ community both nationally and internationally.
