The Malecon Arches, Downtown Puerto Vallarta

[toc] Introduction The Malecon Arches "Los Arcos del Malecón" is an important Puerto Vallarta landmark, are on the oceanfront Aquiles Serdan esplanade (by the Los Arcos Amphitheater, AKA Aquiles Serdan Theater, the Open Air Theater across the street from the Main Square) on the Malecon/Boardwalk. Do not confuse "The Arches" in Downtown PV with "The Arches Natural Marine Park" (Los Arcos de Mismaloya) which is a series of small islands south of Puerto Vallarta, that in the past were called "Las Peñas" and gave the village its name. You can read about these in a separate article. About the arches The Arches of Puerto Vallarta are four large decorative stone arches that were brought to Puerto Vallarta from a colonial hacienda close to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. They have over time become almost as iconic and recognizable as the Seahorse statue or the Crown on the Guadalupe Parish, the other main landmarks in town. In the afternoon hundreds of kids and families enjoy free shows, musical and altruistic festivals, clowns, and even folkloric dance displays (for example the Xiutla Dance troupe) that take place here on this seaside plaza (don’t forget to ...

The Puerto Vallarta Sign (Puerto Vallarta Letters) on the Malecon

Puerto Vallarta Sign and The Boy on the Seahorse by Rafael Zamarripa (1976) Malecon Vallarta [toc] A great Puerto Vallarta landmark was unveiled during the World Tourism Day events in 2016. It's a very beautiful sign with colorful letters that spell out "Puerto Vallarta", it flanks the iconic Rafael Zamarripa "Seahorse Statue" on downtown Malecon. The Boy on the Seahorse, Puerto Vallarta Letter/Sign The PV City Sign has been moved around town, to the Marina Vallarta, and by the Amphitheater a little further down the seaside promenade, but it has returned to its current Malecon location. The Puerto Vallarta letters are designed and made by the sculptor and artist Carlos Terres, the same artist that was in charge of replacing the destroyed crown of the iconic Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in the downtown area. Manuel Lepe Macedo Each letter includes design elements and decorations based on the art of Manuel Lepe Macedo, the most famous city artist who is well known for his naïf-style art and his love of all the traditional city traditions and motifs. Famous Puerto Vallarta Sunsets

Wow! Where did those colors come from? It is nearly impossible to find a travel review of the city that doesn't mention the gorgeous views during a Puerto Vallarta sunset when the sun drops into the horizon. No doubt you've seen nature's own spectacle from the patio of your Puerto Vallarta room or villa. The scene is nearly impossible to describe a swath of brilliant gold and scarlet spilling across a blue velvet sky. Have you ever wondered, though, what makes that gorgeous palette? First of all, be advised that it's a bad idea to wonder aloud what makes those vivid hues when you're in the middle of a romantic interlude. That said, if you're 8 years old or single or if your significant other is, like you, also a bit of a nerd (in a good way, of course), then it's time to learn something about the mechanics of sunsets. Actually, there's a lot more science in a sunset than you may think, and it turns out it's not that easy to explain. Briefly, it seems that the Earth's atmosphere causes light from the visible spectrum to scatter. For reasons best understood by physicists, red ...

Tequila, a magical town in Jalisco, Mexico

[toc] Tequila, a town that represents Mexico all over the World There's almost no way you can hear the word "Tequila" and not think about colorful Mexico. It doesn't really matter where on earth you live, if there's something that immediately represents México, that must be Tequila. If you are not familiar with the country, then it is most likely that when you hear the word Tequila, your imagination makes you think of the famous liquor and not necessarily the town where it comes from and from who it derives its name. The History of Tequila The Tequila Goddess Wall mural Municipio de Tequila (Tequila Town Hall) City of Tequila This community was given the name Santiago de Tequila when it was founded by the Franciscan Friar Juan Calera on April 15. 1530 as a settlement for the Caxcane Indians that lived scattered around the Chiquihultillo Mountains. Top 5 Beaches in Puerto Vallarta and surroundings

[toc] Obviously, it's a complicated undertaking to create a small list of the best beaches in Puerto Vallarta and even more to decide which one is better than another. I want to make it clear from the beginning that this list is subjective, they are beaches that I personally like and are based on what I consider the best, but this will vary a lot depending on your own taste. For example, a windsurfer or kitesurfing fan would say that the #1 beach is Bucerias, due to the strong constant winds and easy access. Someone who enjoys diving will say that the best is Pizota, someone who enjoys beach sports will say it's a different one, and so on. I realize that I have completely undermined the value of this article and, therefore, there will be a significant group of you that'll stop reading immediately and go to another part of the site or leave this site forever in protest ... I get it ;-) but I prefer the truth. For those who have not left, I have visited all the beaches from Sayulita in the north to Yelapa in the south, there is a small group ...
