Saint Francis of Assisi by Augusto Bozzano

Though Ramiz Barquet did not sculpt this piece, he was the one that donated it to the city and the Our lady of Guadalupe Parish, you’ll find it on the left side of the church in downtown Puerto Vallarta.

Ramiz Barquet, a prodigious artist that populated much of Vallarta with his many unique styled sculptures donated this work to the parish.

Saint Francis of Assisi by Augusto Bozzano

Despite being wrongly attributed to Barquet, this piece was cast in bronze by Augusto Bozzano, an important Italian master of whom Ramiz Barquet was protégé. Mr. Bozzano was the director of the famous Art Academy in Florence, Italy.

Saint Francis of Assisi was born Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, nicknamed Francesco by his father was pronounced a saint by Pope Gregory IX in 1228. Known as the patron saint of animals, environment.

This special sculpture that Barquet donated to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, titled “San Francisco de Asís en Éxtasis” (Saint Francis of Assisi in Extasis) is located on the left side of the Guadalupe Parish in downtown Puerto Vallarta.
