The beloved giant letters spelling out “Puerto Vallarta” have returned to their rightful place on the Malecón after a month and a half of restoration and redecoration. The letters, which have become a symbol of the city and a popular photo spot for tourists, were given a fresh coat of paint inspired by the works of renowned naif artist Manuel Lepe.
The restoration project was undertaken by Marcela Lepe Quiroz, the heiress of Manuel Lepe, and her nephew Luis Lepe. They worked to restore the original colors and style of the letters, which had been altered when they were first created five years ago. The new design faithfully reflects Lepe’s unique artistic vision and pays tribute to his legacy.
A special ceremony was held to mark the return of the letters to the Malecón. The event featured traditional folk dances, live music, and speeches from local officials and members of the Lepe family. Marcela Lepe expressed her deep gratitude for the positive response from the community and her pride in seeing the letters restored to their former glory.
