Puerto Vallarta recently marked a significant milestone, celebrating its 107th anniversary as a municipality and 57 years since its official designation as a city on May 31st. Thousands gathered on the iconic Malecón for a day filled with diverse cultural, artistic, and civic activities that honored the city’s rich history and vibrant present.
The day’s events commenced early in the morning, drawing families, visitors, and local authorities to the city center. The festivities began with a flag-raising ceremony at Plaza de Armas, followed by a solemn session of the City Council at Los Arcos del Malecón, where the historical and cultural importance of the occasion for the “Vallartense” community was highlighted.
A central attraction of the celebration was an impressive air show organized by the Mexican Air Force. Beginning at 3:00 PM, the “Águilas Aztecas” and “Guerreros Águila” squadrons performed breathtaking acrobatic maneuvers and parachute jumps in front of “El Caballito,” one of the city’s most recognizable sculptures. This marked the first time Puerto Vallarta hosted such an aerial display as part of its public commemorations, making it a truly memorable moment.
Throughout the afternoon and into the evening, the celebrations continued with a variety of cultural presentations. These included a performance by the Ballet Xiutla, a piano recital by Diego Meza Terrones, and a concert by the Puerto Vallarta School Orchestra. Live music kept the energy high with performances from artists like Rino, Reno y Los Cumbia Friends, Latoya London, and Evelin Guerra. The festivities concluded with a lively performance by Banda La Matona, a band from Compostela, Nayarit, followed by a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the night sky over the Malecón.
