Playa Camarones will become the first beach in the municipality to receive the prestigious Playa Platino (Platinum Beach) Certification, this high-level national distinction will be formally presented at the 5th Sustainable Beaches Summit in Cancún, Quintana Roo, at the end of October.
The Playa Platino Certification is awarded by the Mexican Institute of Standardization and Certification (IMNC) to beaches that meet exceptional standards in several key areas. Playa Camarones, located right in the city’s 5 de Diciembre neighborhood, successfully passed all four evaluation categories: Environmental Quality, Safety (including lifeguard towers and security personnel), Infrastructure (such as restrooms and showers), and confirmed Water Quality as evaluated by Cofepris.
Christian Bravo Carbajal, President of the Commission for Free, Clean, and Certified Beaches, highlighted that the achievement is a testament to strong public-private partnership. He noted that the recognition is the result of collaboration between citizens, hoteliers, businesses, and the municipal government, stressing that the award comes from “an arduous effort and the sum of wills.”
