Puerto Vallarta’s international airport is rebounding strongly from the passenger dip that followed February’s security alerts, and the destination is adding eight new routes in 2026 to rebuild connectivity.
Airport administrator Omar Gildardo Torres Grajeda told the Consejo Consultivo 2026 that March saw only a 0.4% drop in seats, while the October-to-May winter season is up 8%, from 4.9 million seats in 2025 to 5.3 million this year. Through April 2026, the airport has handled 2.46 million passengers, with 58% international and 42% domestic.
The recovery is being bolstered by eight new routes that are either already flying or launching this year:
- Southwest Airlines — daily flights to San Diego and weekly flights to St. Louis (both inaugurated in March)
- Volaris — three weekly to Puebla, three weekly to Aguascalientes, and four weekly to San Luis Potosí, all starting June 2
- Southwest Airlines — twice-weekly to Las Vegas beginning in June
- Porter Airlines — three weekly to Edmonton, Canada, starting November 3
- Air Canada — three weekly to Calgary, reopening December 10
Overall, Puerto Vallarta is offering an average of 478 weekly departures to 54 destinations: 24 in the United States, 16 in Canada, and 14 in Mexico.
The Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico also committed one million pesos to a federal tourism promotion campaign, to be coordinated with the state tourism board, in order to reinforce demand through the summer and beyond.
Travelers flying to Puerto Vallarta this year will find more choices than ever, with additional frequencies across North America making it easier to reach beaches south of the city and the historic downtown directly from new gateways like St. Louis, Las Vegas, and Edmonton.
