Puerto Vallarta’s planned La Bobadilla sports complex moved closer to construction after Jalisco’s infrastructure chief inspected the Unidad Deportiva Alfonso Díaz Santos during a work visit to the city.
Local reports say David Zamora Bueno, secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP), toured the complex with architecture, engineering and legal staff to review the site conditions before work begins. The project, announced by Governor Pablo Lemus, calls for an investment of 200 million pesos and an estimated construction period of roughly 18 months to two years.
The first stage is expected to focus on practical upgrades: rehabilitation of the Olympic pool, bathrooms and dressing rooms, a children’s aquatic play area, plus improved walkways and entrances. The unit already includes an athletics track, soccer field, baseball field with stands, pool and outdoor exercise areas, making it one of the city’s most important public recreation spaces.
The update adds a concrete follow-up to Puerto Vallarta’s broader 2026 infrastructure program. For resident families, youth teams and visiting athletes, the project could strengthen the city’s sports offering while improving a facility that has faced limits, including an Olympic pool reported out of operation since September 2024 and stadium-lighting problems.
Visitors will not see an overnight change, but the project is worth tracking as Puerto Vallarta continues investing in family recreation, local athletics and family-friendly activities beyond the beach corridor.
