Drivers using the free Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta route should expect active work zones through late October, after SICT reported 50% progress on five conservation projects along Federal Highway 70.
The Jalisco office of the Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes said the work covers several points between Ameca and Mascota, a mountain corridor used by travelers who reach Puerto Vallarta by car. The package includes three milling-and-new-asphalt sections, one seal-coat section and the reconstruction of Puente Ameca at kilometer 50+700.
According to local reports, SICT Jalisco director María Padilla Romo supervised the works with technical staff. The listed sections include the Ameca junction to Ameca from km 0+000 to 7+000, Ameca-Mascota stretches from km 0+000 to 26+000, km 70+000 to 98+000 and km 98+000 to 117+370, plus Puente Ameca.
For visitors planning road trips, the practical takeaway is simple: allow extra time, obey construction signage and reduce speed, especially during rain. Travelers comparing routes or arranging car rentals in Puerto Vallarta should also check current road conditions before departure and review the destination maps if driving into unfamiliar mountain sections.
