Puerto Vallarta’s municipal government is inviting residents and visitors to a free four-day Fiestas Patrias program for the 216th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence. Events run Sunday, Sept. 13, through Wednesday, Sept. 16, around Plaza de Armas and the Puerto Vallarta Malecón.
Sunday, Sept. 13, opens at 8:00 a.m. with a civic ceremony commemorating the Battle of Chapultepec in Plaza de Armas, in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Monday, Sept. 14, is National Charrería Day. The charro parade is set for 10:00 a.m., starting on Ignacio L. Vallarta Street in the Romantic Zone, continuing along the Malecón, and ending near the Ley store.
Tuesday, Sept. 15, begins with an 8:00 a.m. solemn City Council session in the square. From 6:30 p.m., the main stage near the Malecón lighthouse is scheduled for DJ Zuar with batucada and pre-Hispanic dance, Ballet Folclórico Cuauhtémoc, Mariachi Internacional Real de América, and Grupo Caché. Mayor Luis Munguía is set to deliver the Grito de Independencia from City Hall at 11:00 p.m., followed by fireworks, castillos, and toritos at 11:30 p.m., then Banda Vallejo at midnight.
Wednesday, Sept. 16, has an 8:00 a.m. civic act in Plaza de Armas. The civic-military parade is listed at 9:00 a.m. in the official municipal program, matching the city’s earlier parade notice. Banderas News lists a 10:00 a.m. start, so visitors should arrive early and confirm the time. The route follows the same downtown Malecón corridor as the charro parade. Public events are free; expect street closures along the boardwalk.
