Visitors spending Mexico’s Independence holiday in Puerto Vallarta can use bank branches on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, but not on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
The national calendar of banking holidays published by Mexico’s National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) in the Diario Oficial de la Federación, and listed by the Asociación de Bancos de México, marks Sept. 16 as a day when supervised financial institutions must close their doors and suspend operations. Tuesday, Sept. 15, is not on that list, so branches are scheduled to open on their usual hours for deposits, withdrawals, payments, and other in-person errands.
That timing matters in downtown Puerto Vallarta, where Fiestas Patrias gatherings concentrate around Plaza de Armas and the Malecón. The Grito is traditionally observed late on Sept. 15, with the civic parade the next day. Travelers who need cash for restaurants, taxis, or street vendors should plan branch visits for Tuesday, or wait until Thursday, Sept. 17, when branches are reported to resume regular hours.
Wednesday’s branch closure does not stop electronic and self-service banking. ATMs, mobile apps, online banking, debit and credit cards, and basic deposits or withdrawals at bank correspondents in convenience stores and supermarkets are expected to keep working, according to local and national coverage of the CNBV calendar.
