Bucerías Wind Festival Returns to Riviera Nayarit May 22–24

Starting this Friday, the Festival del Viento 2026 will bring international kiteboarding competition back to Bucerías, Riviera Nayarit. The three-day event runs from May 22 to May 24 and is open to the public at no charge.

The festival has become one of Mexico’s most important water-sports gatherings, drawing riders from across the country and abroad to take advantage of the consistent winds and warm waters of Banderas Bay. This year’s program includes Freestyle, Big Air, Downwind, and Slalom competitions, with riders performing high-altitude tricks and high-speed maneuvers along the shoreline.

Organizers emphasize that the event welcomes families and first-time spectators. Visitors can watch the action directly from the beach, explore equipment demonstrations, and learn more about kiteboarding from athletes and instructors on-site.

Bucerías sits on the Bucerías waterfront in the northern stretch of Banderas Bay, roughly 20 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta’s hotel zone and about 10 minutes from Punta de Mita. The town’s wide beach and dependable afternoon winds make it an ideal venue for the sport.

Those traveling from outside the region can reach the area through Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR), with ground transportation available via rental car, taxi, or rideshare along Carretera 200.
