Under the leadership of Mayor Luis Munguía, Puerto Vallarta has launched a comprehensive restoration initiative to revitalize the downtown area and the Historic Center. Following the security disruptions of Sunday, February 22, specialized teams from Civil Protection and the Fire Department have worked around the clock to clear major thoroughfares. Efforts focused on removing over 28 vehicles that obstructed traffic, followed by deep industrial washing to ensure the streets are clean and ready for the city’s daily “welcoming rhythm.”
The recovery has now shifted from cleanup to infrastructure enhancement. Maintenance crews are active along the corridor from the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Unit to Conchas Chinas, repairing street lighting to improve nighttime safety and repainting facades and traffic beacons. Landscaping teams are also pruning trees and rehabilitating public spaces to polish the city’s appearance for both residents and the international visitors returning to the area.
With the “red alert” officially lifted by Governor Pablo Lemus, the city is seeing a full return to normalcy. Schools, banks, and restaurants have reopened their doors, and public transportation has been fully restored. This rapid response—supported by increased patrols from the Mexican Navy and National Guard—reflects a commitment to ensuring that Puerto Vallarta remains an orderly, secure, and premier destination on the Mexican Pacific.
