Free English Lessons Begin in the Romantic Zone

The Puerto Vallarta Municipal Government’s Sexual Diversity Office has partnered with the Focus on Green language school to launch a new community initiative: free English classes for local residents. Led by instructor Zack de la Cerda, the sessions are held every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the kiosk in Lázaro Cárdenas Park, located in the heart of the Zona Romántica.

The program is designed specifically for adults over the age of 18 and accommodates all proficiency levels, from beginner to advanced. According to De la Cerda, the curriculum is highly participatory and focuses on practical language skills tailored for the workplace. While there is no financial cost for tuition, students are asked to “pay it forward” by volunteering their time to support the Sexual Diversity Office’s various community activities and initiatives.

Carlos Plascencia, head of the Sexual Diversity Office, emphasized that the goal of the program is to empower locals by providing them with the linguistic tools necessary to access better employment opportunities in Puerto Vallarta’s tourism-driven economy. Interested residents can sign up by messaging the Jefatura de Diversidad Sexual or Focus on Green Facebook pages, or by visiting the park kiosk during class hours.
