Jalisco Airports Reach 95% Normalcy After Security Alert

Air travel in Western Mexico is stabilizing as the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) reports that 95% of operations have been restored at Puerto Vallarta (PVR) and Guadalajara (GDL) airports. This recovery follows two days of significant disruption sparked by a high-profile security operation on February 22, which led to a surge in regional unrest. As of February 24, major domestic and international carriers have successfully re-established their schedules, providing relief to thousands of stranded travelers.

While the majority of flights are back on track, a few residual disruptions remain. Guadalajara reported 11 cancellations and 11 delays, while Puerto Vallarta had four scheduled cancellations as airlines worked to reposition crews and aircraft. Most major airlines, including Air Canada, United, and Aeromexico, have resumed service. However, the Canadian low-cost carrier Flair Airlines is still in the process of catching up, as it was one of the last to restart its full rotation into the region.

The airports are currently operating under a permanent security presence by the National Guard to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. Despite the lingering cancellations, the terminal buildings and access roads are functioning efficiently, and ground transportation has begun to flow freely again. Travelers are still encouraged to check their flight status directly with their airline before heading to the airport, especially if flying with budget carriers that are still clearing their backlogs.
