Mexico’s tourism sector is celebrating a record-breaking start to 2025, with the Ministry of Tourism announcing the arrival of 6.121 million international tourists by air during the first quarter. This figure represents a significant increase compared to previous years, highlighting the continued recovery and growth of the industry.
Data from the Migration Policy Unit, Registration and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior indicates that this surge in international arrivals translates to a 3.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024 and a substantial 16.6% rise compared to 2019, when 5.249 million tourists arrived.
The majority of tourists arriving in Mexico during this period originated from the United States, Canada, and Argentina, totaling 5.188 million visitors. Notably, visitors from the United States played a significant role in driving this growth, with 3.858 million U.S. residents arriving in the first three months of 2025, marking a 5.1% increase from 2024 and a 34.9% increase from 2019.
Arrivals from Canada also showed a significant upward trend, reaching 1.215 million visitors, a 13% increase from 2024 and a 15.3% increase compared to 2019. Argentina also contributed to this growth, with 114,719 tourists visiting Mexico, a 32.5% increase compared to the same period last year. These figures highlight the strengthening tourism ties within North America and with key Latin American partners.
