The city of Puerto Vallarta recently commemorated the 92nd anniversary of its iconic twin lighthouses with a special photo exhibition in the Matamoros Street Lookout. Hosted by the Instituto Vallartense de Cultura (IVC) and the Department of Tourism and Economic Development, in collaboration with the ROMPE Collective, the event showcased a collection of historic photographs capturing the lighthouses’ role in the city’s maritime history.
The exhibition, titled “Twin Lighthouses, Guides of the Bay,” featured images from the Municipal Chronicle Office, the Catalina Montes de Oca Collection, and the Scott Rowed Collection. The photographs offer a glimpse into the past, depicting the construction and evolution of the lighthouses, which have served as essential navigational aids for ships entering Banderas Bay.
During the inauguration ceremony, local officials and historians emphasized the significance of the lighthouses as symbols of Puerto Vallarta’s maritime heritage. They highlighted the lighthouses’ role in uniting the community and promoting the city’s growth.
