The Puerto Vallarta Marathon returns for its seventh annual edition on Sunday, April 19, 2026. This prestigious event is more than just a local race; it is officially sanctioned by the Mexican Federation of Athletics Associations (FMAA) and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). Because the course is certified by World Athletics, it serves as an official qualifier for major global events, including the Boston Marathon.
The competition offers four different distances to accommodate everyone from elite athletes to recreational joggers: the full 42K Marathon, a 21K Half Marathon, and 10K and 5K recreational races. All routes are designed to showcase the scenic beauty of the bay, featuring a relatively flat and fast circuit that transitions from the modern hotel zone to the traditional charm of the city. The marathon and half-marathon will have an early “gun start” at 5:30 AM to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures, while the 10K and 5K races will follow at 5:45 AM.
The weekend’s activities begin with the Expo Maratón on Saturday, April 18, at the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center. This is where participants must pick up their official race kits, which include an electronic timing chip, a high-performance commemorative jersey, and the finisher’s medal. With its combination of professional certification and stunning tropical backdrops, the Puerto Vallarta Marathon continues to solidify the region’s reputation as a premier destination for international sports tourism.
