Puerto Vallarta has solidified its position as a premier LGBTQ+ destination in Mexico, drawing comparisons to the iconic Spanish resort city of Torremolinos. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and vibrant LGBTQ+ scene, Puerto Vallarta has become a popular choice for travelers from North America and beyond.
Just as Torremolinos has a dedicated “Nogalera” district, Puerto Vallarta boasts its own “Romantic Zone,” a vibrant area teeming with LGBTQ+ friendly bars, clubs, and restaurants. Antonio Domínguez, the creator of the Torremolinos Bear Fest, has been organizing a similar event in Puerto Vallarta for the past three years, fostering a strong connection between the two cities.
Both cities offer a wide range of options for LGBTQ+ travelers, from lively nightlife to beautiful beaches. However, Domínguez notes that the community infrastructure in Puerto Vallarta is still developing compared to Torremolinos, with a greater reliance on the business sector to organize events and initiatives.
