Jalisco has selected Puerto Vallarta as the Costa-region home for a new Regional Center for Autism and Intellectual Disability, bringing specialized services closer to families who now often travel to Guadalajara or other cities for evaluations and therapy.
The project was confirmed after the Jalisco Congress unanimously approved a new state law for the care, protection and inclusion of people living on the autism spectrum. Governor Pablo Lemus said the state must now secure resources and coordination so the law is applied fully, while the state expands a regional care network that already includes centers in Zapopan, Guadalajara, Tepatitlán de Morelos and the Teletón Center.
For Puerto Vallarta, the announcement adds a practical family-service layer to the destination’s broader quality-of-life infrastructure. The state says the network will extend to the Costa region with a Puerto Vallarta project, while Ciudad Guzmán and Lagos de Moreno are projected for the following year.
The law also creates a State Registry of People with Autism, a Special Autism Fund and an intersectoral commission to coordinate health, education, justice, care and social-assistance services. Those measures are designed to improve early diagnosis, specialized care, education, employment inclusion and access to justice.
