Puerto Vallarta’s tourism sector has rebounded strongly following a brief dip earlier this year, with hotel occupancy now averaging 85% across the destination, according to the Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas Hotel Association.
Daniel Torres D’Elia, general director of the association, confirmed that advance room-night sales for future travel periods have already surpassed the same period in 2025. The recovery comes after temporary cancellations in late February, and industry leaders say restored traveler confidence is driving both domestic and international bookings.
To maintain momentum, the Hotel Association has partnered with PriceTravel, a leading online travel agency in Mexico and Latin America, on a three-month promotional campaign valued at approximately one million pesos. The initiative targets the domestic market and aims to strengthen occupancy through the summer travel season.
Air connectivity is also expanding. The Puerto Vallarta International Airport recently confirmed eight new routes for 2026, including Southwest Airlines service to San Diego and St. Louis, Volaris links to Puebla, Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosí, and Porter Airlines flights to Edmonton starting in November. Air Canada will also resume its Calgary route in December. Details on all airlines and direct flights to Puerto Vallarta are available for travelers planning ahead.
Airport administrator Omar Gildardo Torres Grajeda reported that passenger numbers have nearly realigned with 2025 levels after a brief March–April slowdown. The airport expects positive growth in June and is offering 478 weekly departures to 54 destinations.
With strong hotel bookings, new flight options and coordinated promotional investments, Puerto Vallarta is positioning itself for a robust 2026–2027 winter season. Visitors looking for things to do in Puerto Vallarta will find the destination fully operational and welcoming.
