Puerto Vallarta is set to host the prestigious Ariel Awards, marking a strategic and symbolic move by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC) to reconnect the renowned tourist destination with the grandeur of cinema.
Michelle Fridman, Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism, emphasized the enduring legacy of iconic films such as The Night Of The Iguana, which significantly impacted the city’s architecture, tourism, and identity. She noted the presence of boutique hotels that once housed legendary figures like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, further underscoring Puerto Vallarta’s cinematic heritage. The Secretary of Tourism also emphasized that this year’s Ariel Awards will be more than just a ceremony, transforming the host city into a vibrant platform for cultural activities, tributes, dinners, and tours of significant film locations.
In the nominations for this 67th edition of the Ariel Awards, the films Pedro Páramo and La Cocina stand out, each leading with an impressive 13 nominations. Armando Casas also expressed the AMACC’s intention to amplify its voice through broader media coverage of the awards ceremony, including public television, cable, and streaming platforms, to reach diverse audiences and further support the growth of Mexican cinema.
