PV Airport New Terminal to Double Flights by 2027

Puerto Vallarta’s airport is getting a massive upgrade. Terminal 2, now 54% complete, will double international flight capacity when it opens in early 2027. The project is part of GAP’s 26 billion peso investment plan across Jalisco’s airports, one of the largest infrastructure commitments in the region’s history.

The numbers are impressive. The new terminal spans over 89,000 square meters and will handle more than 8 million passengers annually. But what really sets it apart is sustainability. GAP designed Terminal 2 to be 100% energy self-sufficient, with a solar panel roof that generates all the electricity the building needs over its entire operational lifetime. It’s targeting LEED Gold certification, a first for a Latin American airport. The design also includes rainwater harvesting systems and high-efficiency glass facades to cut heat transfer and reduce cooling demands.

For travelers, this means more flight options and shorter connection times. For Puerto Vallarta, it’s a clear signal that the region is betting big on long-term tourism growth. The airport already handles 54 global routes with over 1,000 weekly flights at peak season. Terminal 2 pushes that capacity even further, positioning PVR as a world-class aviation hub ahead of the 2026 World Cup and beyond. A phased opening starts later this year, with full operations by early 2027.
