Vallarta Pride and NYC Pride Forge Sister City Alliance

In a landmark moment for international LGBTQ+ advocacy and tourism, NYC Pride and Vallarta Pride formalized a historic sister city agreement this week in the heart of Manhattan. This binational commitment aims to advance inclusion, promote LGBTQ+ tourism, and champion human rights on a global scale.

The signing ceremony took place during the ongoing NYC Pride 2025 celebrations, widely recognized as the most significant LGBTQ+ event in the United States and a birthplace of Pride events worldwide. NYC Pride, one of the largest global gatherings of its kind, has historically drawn between two and four million attendees, solidifying its status as a global epicenter for visibility, remembrance, and the ongoing fight for equality.

This newly formalized alliance establishes a shared agenda to boost cultural exchange, inclusive tourism, human rights advocacy, and community diplomacy between Puerto Vallarta and New York City. The initiative, strongly supported by the Municipal Government of Puerto Vallarta and the Consulate General of Mexico in New York, includes plans for a binational committee that will annually evaluate and expand joint projects. Key commitments involve exchanging artists and activists at both festivals, creating mentorship and scholarship programs for emerging LGBTQ+ leaders, and implementing a tourism promotion strategy that positions both cities as safe and world-class destinations for the LGBTQ+ community.
