In observance of International Indigenous Peoples Day, the municipal government of Puerto Vallarta, led by interim mayor Francisco José Martínez Gil, reaffirmed its dedication to protecting the rights and promoting the rich cultural heritage of indigenous communities.
The event, organized by the Instituto Vallartense de Cultura (IVC) in collaboration with the Municipal DIF System, took place at the Cuale Cultural Center. It highlighted the cultural, artistic, and gastronomic wealth of these groups.
Brenda Janeth Díaz Flores, director of the IVC, emphasized the significance of this day as an opportunity to reflect on the history and challenges faced by indigenous peoples. “We not only celebrate but also commit to working for a more just and equitable future for them,” she stated.
The event featured pre-Hispanic dance performances, purification rituals, and exhibitions of indigenous handicrafts, which will continue until August 18. During the inauguration, participants were recognized for their role in preserving traditions.
