disturbing message from craigslist- Any validity?

The police are stopping pedestrians and robbing them of their cash, watches, cell phones and jewelry.
If they stop you insist on going into the light (la luz) and get the TRUCK NUMBER. Last week alone at least 10 robberies by the police including myself and my clients. It is out of control and will ruin our tourist industry and real estate market-it already is.
Tell all your friends and call Mayor Bravo. This must stop NOW! The police are cowards and deserve 25 years in prison for this.

I appreciate your civil response. Yes, I understand about trolls and who knows... The message appeares to be genuine because the fellow apparently knows the name of the local mayor. Your guess is as good as mine. The writer did give an email address. You can find it yourself in craigslist- Puerto Vallarta- real estate. I suspect this guy or a group he was with had some sort of encounter with the police. If they were roudy tourists asking for trouble or innocent people is mere conjecture. My consern is: has there been a recent reported incident increase of this nature? Apparently not. Sorry I brought it up.

This report seems a little severe ,yes I gave up some cash ,but I also did a stupid thing by going swimming super late and maybe it was a way of not taking me to jail for a P.I., they made a point . sure hope this is not taken the wrong way about pv ,never felt safer anyplace I have ever been and I have travelled alot with the us navy

who the hell pushes a crooked cop into his truck as he is \"pointing\" a machine gun at you? and it sure does sound like this guy is around or \"knows\" people that were robbed in the same day. unlucky..very unliucky. i did however watch a cop kick a handcuffed man in the head just to shut him up..it knocked him out.

Applause to Paul Crist for doing the legwork. Some of my friends here in Pa have crossed me off their e-mail lists because I actually check things, and not just on Snopes. Just the other day I called my contact at the NJ State Police to check something out that turned out to be bogus. But that was just one phone call; Paul did the real thing.

My wife and I will be in P.V. for a week beginning next Friday (Feb 29th) for our first visit and I too saw the Craigs List posting (under \"vacation Rentals\") and was concerned. Thank you to everyone for sharing their time to address this posting. I am looking forward even more now to our visit.

This my friend is total \"misinformation\" saying it politely. I feel safer in PVR than I do in the USA and the policia in PVR are there to make sure your stay is safe and pleasant. I have a much better opinion of them than the police in Tulsa,I even got a policia to pose for a picture just try this back home.So travel assured and please end this drivel. :roll:

My Canadian friend that lives in P. V. has been robbed 3 times by the police ... so now he wears really grubby cloths, no watch (or its a very cheap one) and no expensive jewelery and never has more the 500 pesos on him. These robberies have all happened late at night when the streets are quite.

In one case I know it has happened because the person told me it did. He was walking home late at night to his Copa de Oro condo. He said the police stopped him and frisked him and took everything out of his pockets and wallet. I would estimate he is in his 70s. They laid his money on the hood of the police car and all the contents and pretended to count the money. They put his stuff all together again he thought and handed it back to him. The next morning he noticed his money was gone.

I worked, until last week in old town and have had many dealings there, I actually have not met anyone that this happened too. And of the two letters to the editor in the trbune that I did read, I objected to Aliane printing one because they were not there, and supposedly it happened to their friend.

Since my husband and myself were/are planning to retire within a few years to his homeland, we need any info you might have.
Two different family members in Mexico have received recently telephone calls. The callers say this is your (family member) If the person responds at all, the caller/s proceed to say that they know where you live and they proceed to threaten all members of the family. We think they are going through the phone books and call the telephone numbers listed?
THe callers demand monies in exchange for not killing your family.

If the newspapers there or anyone has any info, Please please let us know what if anything the gov, police can do regarding these threats.

actually I do know someone that this happened too, and it was not true she called and checked and her daughter was fine. But they do not call houses, they randomly dial cell phones, and it could happen anywhere. If it were real they always would offer proof. It is very safe here, the bad areas are if you do or get involved in bad things, then...keep in mind it is not because the police choose not to do anything, it is simply not as well Fu ded or with the same tech toys as the states. If you safe looking for a nice peaceful retirement come and enjoy it. The media says stay out of Mexico, but if you read the articals it says stay out of the boarder towns such as tj and juarez which have always been violent.

Do the family members live in Puerto Vallarta? One would think that the family members would know what their govt, local police could do about it. The locals know how to handle things that are happening in their communities, what works in Jalisco might not work in Nayarit. I am just trying to understand why you posted this on a Puerto Vallarta tourist forum, unless you are asking how to specifically handle it in Puerto Vallarta? Even then, if it is happening to Mexican citizens, non-citizen ex-pats living in PV would probably not know the answers your are looking for.

This post originated in 2003, I think it took some real digging to reincarnate it again. Saying nothing more than \"yeah the same thing happened to us in MEXICO\" is not very convincing. Mexico is a big country so if one is to come on here and cry foul, at least state the facts of what happened and where.

We have been going to PV for 26 years and yes, there are changes and reported to be more danger. We have not seen it. We do take what is is said by negative people with a grain of Salt. We DO NOT bury our heads in the sand and do take what we consider prudent care. Less then 100 days and we will be headed PV way. I never mind people posting facts and documented information on safety, but do resent the blown out of proportion reports that are never confirmed for the PV area. I admit that Cuidad Juarez would not be a choice destination for me and maybe a couple of other border cities.

The largest Cartels have for many, many years had vested interest in the Tourist Resorts and would not in any way be trying to destroy their laundering ability. That means they will always do all they can to protect the Tourist, perhaps even better then Law enforcement.

I consider your response that the large Cartels having a vested interest in tourism for money laundering purposes to be the most compelling argument for a travelers safety to PV! Thank you, makes sense.

I am just trying to guage the a changing situation. Recall that Bogata (sp?) was once peaceful, drug cartel ravaged, and now peaceful again.

The biggest threat we face in this season is dengue fever from a mosquito bite.:lol:

Because the US destinations are hurting and they are trying to frighten people so they will go to Florida.

\"Bunk\"......How are you going to justify some guy posting something in 2008 on craigslist as being the fault of the U.S.? Maybe you should spend a little more time in the U.S. Mexico and Canada are advertised daily on television as places to vacation. There is no conspiracy trying to keep people from going on vacation outside the U.S.
