Oh, a rare sight! I have been several times in the region but never seen an alligator in the ocean so far. Am I wrong or is this a real rare occasion? I think I would leave the beach immediately if I saw such a big alligator, these kind of animals are not really my thing, I am even afraid of them in the zoo or a sealife park.

We live by a estuary ( estero) where crocodiles live. They often go to the ocean to migrate from one estero to the other or to fish when our little estero dries up. I have never seen one in the ocean and in fact I have only seen the tracks that he leaves on the sand beside our house.

This afternoon around 1:30 there was a very large crocodile approximately 3 meters long swimming in the ocean by Las Palmas and Canto del Sol. A huge crowd of beachgoers was standing back on the beach watching it. It was spotted when it came up very close to a guy swimming in the area. Apparently they had a pretty big rain storm up in the mountains last night and he must have been washed from the river into the ocean. He had certainly swam a long way from the Ameca river. Rumor has it that by tonight he will be walking along the malecon. :D
