200 years of Independence is marked today and tomorrow by celebrations throughout the republic. Calderone has declared two additional holidays for federal employees so some businesses will no doubt be closed for the next few days.
It is perhaps fitting to remember a bit of Mexican history on this day. For example do you know why we celebrate 200 years of independence on the September 16th, 2010 when independence was not declared until September 27th, 1821? It all has to do with El Grito:
