How much Tequila can I take home?

Actually Canada is one 40 oz bottle of hard liquor if you can find one anymore. And those are British oz, higher than American.

(Roughly 1.1 litres)

Definately only 1 liter per person over age 21 unless the state you are entering first has a different age. Chuck... 8)

WOW....you were correct, that information was for coming into Mexico.
So... I went to the US CUSTOMS web site and found that 1 liter will be duty free... but you CAN BRING MORE... but MAY be subject to duty fees and taxes: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/190/kw/how%20much%20liquor%20can%20i%20bring%20into%20the%20US%20from%20Mexico

Are they not taking alcohol tests before you go into the plane, or that for pilots only? In any case, yes, the best idea is to get so stinking drunk on Tequila while in Vallarta that the terrible hangover makes all future intake of the liquor impossible. Happened to me in Acapulco once with some awful tequila blanco with ether or whatever, later with a Sauza Hornitos binge and I never drank a lot of tequila again.

M. ANY site? Thanks alot buddy! I was hoping to get this kind of information when I posted the question.

For the record. We brought home 3 liters each in both checked bags and no one cared or even asked. All 8 bottles were claimed on my form as well.

What does that mean then? That the rules are not valid, that you just have to take a risk, or that the rules are there to be broken?... :-)

We regularly take 3 litres each back. They have just never checked. It has been 16 years.

The U.S. Federal law is such that you are allowed to being one liter of spirits in TAX FREE. Any more than that you are subject to Federal tax.

Also, U.S. Federal law defers to the State law at your point of entry. Some states also allow one liter TAX FREE with payment of State tax on anything over 1 liter. Some states allow no more than the 1 liter, not even with payment of state tax.
