did they come legal or illegal?
Many of my family were immigrants from Holland but they do not or did not go protesting to have windmills set up or wear wood shoes in the RCMP.
They became Canadians from a Dutch background and maybe fly a Dutch flag in their backyard along with the Canadain flag .:)
I think no one is saying that we do not want immigrants in our Countries and yes we do need them to fill the jobs like Mogens said that no one else wants to work.
There has to be some control over immigrants coming into a Country.

no one wants any border open to whomever wishes to enter without some kind of control...my point is that just about everyone here is probably a descendant of someone who was once considered an immigrant (legal or not, wanted or not) and people should keep that in mind as they discuss the pros and cons of who is allowed access and who is not...sonofdob.
I agree with you there Chi-Mike. making them felons is not the answer either. there is no clear cut answer to this problem. one idea is way over the top one direction and the other is way to lenient the other direction. there has to be some compromised area, and it has to come together soon. Yes they to provide a strong work force, especially in the fields of agriculture, your blue-berry farms, seed corn here in iowa, the packing plants across the nation, the vegetable fields of California, etc. nobody is disputing the contributions they are making, but is it right to grant them cititzenship just because, or is it best to arrest, send back, and make a better system of checks and balances of them coming back into the country. making them felons, shipping them back, and then denying them entrance to the country for 10 yrs is just wrong too. especially those that have come here illegally, worked jobs, stayed out of trouble, married a US citizen, raised a family, etc, but now is shipped back and banned for 10 yrs, this is still not right...

i do not support the idea of granting citizenship to illegal imigrants. I would like to see all imigrants registered without threat of immedidiate deportation. a system where all imigrants come and go legally. we would have a work force of registered workers and hiring only those people might eliminate the desert crossings that are killing hundreds of people each year and offer some form of control on imigration from the south.impose heavy fines on anyone hiring workers that are not registered to encourage legal entry into the U.S.Some have argued that without illegal workers the wages would rise to the point that americans would take the jobs. I think some of these jobs would just dissapear. who is gong to pay $100.00 to have their lawn cut? anyone wishing to become a citizen must learn the language and pledge allegiance to the U.S.A.

That said, how about bringing our Brothers and Sisters home from the Middle East and using some of them for border patrol like many other countries use their military. Again, just a thought.
