Yes, I got here safe and sound on Thursday afternoon and have been walking all over to see the sights and what`s new. Get this, yesterday I walked from the condo to the Peninsula Plaza and back! For those of you who don`t know where our condo is, it`s near Pipi`s, so it was a good hike. The day before I walked over to the southside. Some of my observations:
there is a new Starbucks in the main plaza downtown, across from the Malecon in the building where Hecho a Mano used to be. It looks to be well-received and everytime I walk by is mostly filled with locals. Believe it or not - don`t shoot me - it was well-done and is a nice addition to the plaza.
The Greek restaurant Carpathos is gone from their Rodolfo Gomez location and in it`s place they are putting a Mama Mia pizzeria.
The new park is completely finished and much nicer and greener than the old park. Once again there are people sitting on benches and wandering through it so hopefully the controversy can be laid to rest. Someday this will be an old park, too.
The empty, garbage-strewn lot across the street from it is now filled with a new condo building that looks to be about half finished. Although I`m not convinced of the need for yet another condo building, at least it is an improvement over the garbage pit.
The condo building on the old site of Molino de Agua is coming along too. I was glad to see that they set it back far enough that it doesn`t seem to block much view for the people in the building south of it. It still looks funny not to see the lovely grounds of the old hotel but there´s nothing that can be done about that now.
The new condo building on the other corner where the Posada del Rio/Le Gourmet Restaurant was is now at the steel girder phase.
The Malecon is all linked up to the south side including the part in front of
Molina de Agua where last year you had to walk on sand for part of the way.
Bubba Gump Shrimp is in the old location of the California Restaurant on the main street across from the Malecon.
The building where Club 69 and Mocambo were is now just rubble but workmen are on-site constructing a new building.
The old Viva store has been divided in two, with Cassandra Shaw Creations moving into the east side from her former location on Leona Vicario and the west side not yet opened. Reportedly it has been rented by a local family and Cassandra said it is supposed to be a store with the Viva format.
That`s all I can think of at the moment. I`m sure there are lots of other changes which I haven´t seen or noted, especially since I just get around on foot. See ya........
I went to the brunch at Lindomar yesterday and met Rosie, Jennybean, katnsocal and pvdeb. It was my first time at the Lindomar and it was just as good as everyone always says it is.
Today Contessa and her husband came over for an hour and we chatted around the pool.
Saturday evening was spent at Cafe Roma in the company of more board (as opposed to bored) people such as pvbrian and Hoolia, neither of whom post much on this board. There was certainly a crowd, mostly from AllVallarta and JR´s board and Senor Fox gave us a 50% discount on pizzas and of course, let us make phonecalls home. What a guy! Halloween night will be spent handing out candy at CC´s and then on to Que! Pasa for a bit. Thursday night there is a cocktail party to benefit New Life In Mexico that Jennybean invited me to. Tonight I´m going to Villa del Mar to a friend´s place to watch Dancing with the Stars with her. So far, no time to be bored!
