1st time to PV

I have been reading alot in these forums about PV, and still would like more clarification on the whole red light/ green light thing at the airport. Is it a button that everyone is required to push, vs one push for husband/wife? Also, is there any recommendations on packing to help speed up the search if I get the red light? I also read about NWA and locking your luggage with not TSA locks, should I purchase an approved lock, or just slap on my little luggage lock? Will a lock on my luggage cause a problem with customs in PV?

Thanks for replying, I just like to be prepared and want this first trip to Mexico to be fabulous. We are leaving in a few short weeks!

Everyone needs to push the red/green light button at customs...I would suggest packing clothes, undergarments, etc. in large ziplock bags; this way when officals are checking out your bags they are only touching the bags and not your personal items. As far as the lock goes.....it is probably easier not to put one on in the first place. You will need to remove it regardless and this could take more time during the screening process. I just put on a luggage strap around my bag and this helps keep them closed.

we pack everything in travel plastic bags and zip lock bags... it works wonderful as the inspector fumbles thru your clothing, it all stays puts.. makes it nicer for them... i believe it is my turn this year to push the button for Lojo and me...

My husband and I and our son 13 in 2005, pushed the button as one. We got a red light, and went to get our luggage checked all 3 of us together. The guy opened our luggage and looked in and shut it and off we went. It took seconds.

Another little tip if you have a connecting flight with another airline and have your bags sent on for you is to double check your flight number, my bags were on a flight that came in the next day. No red/green light for me , just a nice guy to tell me my bags will be at the hotel the next day.And my little locks that all airport bag handlers have a master to were still on.- You will have a great time ,so no worries.( see the rest of you invaders on the 20th or maybe at the meet up on the 21st ) -jeff

Board member Teduardo recently posted this advice and its something Laurie and I always do so I think Ted is a very clever fellow. :) Hire one of the many porters to transport your bags . They will zip you the shortest route through customs and deliver you past the timeshare creeps to wherever you are supposed to make your connections. A typical load will cost you $5 US - money well spent. :)
