Best place to exchange US $$ for Pe$0s?

Started March 30, 2006 · 19,146 views · 12 posts
So... last time I was here, I used an ATM at the airport and got pesos directly from the machine.

Is there a better place to get Pesos from US dollars?
- Should we get pesos in the US?
- Go to a bank in PV
- Use the airport ATM again?

we just used the atms downtown there all over the place. Our bank charged us 5 dollars every time we used it so we used it once a day. And didnt have to worry bout travellers cheques or lots of cash on us.it gave us pesos.
We brought most of the pesos with us when we went and left it in the safe in our room. Then just went to the ATM when we needed more towards the end of the trip.

I use the casas de cambios that are found all over. Mostly the one in the marina, just down the street from the Crown Paradise Club. They are very competitive and friendly, and will break some of the larger bills so you have pesos ($20 & $50) for tips. 8)
USD to Pesos
OK! Thanks everyone! When you put it that way, I get it! I usually just figure 10 to 1. Guess I never really thought how that would add up over the course of a week! So Sterling, Bof A, or Cambrio it is! I usually come home with some coin and a couple of 200 bills in Pesos and just save them for the next trip- I HAVE to go back then, right? If I keep reading all you \"experienced\" PV travelers I will just keep getting smarter! BTW, only 12 more days!!! Yay! Sandi

PS- I guess I made it to Beachbum! Good for me!
good for you sandi... have a great time, and glad we could be of some assistance to you....

We take travelers checks, we put them in the lock box at the hotel, and take out what we think we will need for the day, then we take the checks down to the cambrio next to viejtos vallarta, across from the seahorse statue. She always gives a good rate, a few times even more then what her sign had posted, but they are closed on Sunday.

Right, but remember, I need to \"wet my beak\".
well let me get some pesos at the casa de cambio and we can slip into the little bar there by marina for a \"wet my beak\" opportunity. Another place close to the casa de cambio is the Citibank area right by the Pemex, we have used them as well for exchanges. There is just so many places you can go to exchange canadian/USD to pesos.

enjoy caio....

Is there a casa de cambio near the Dreams resort or will I need to go into town (say near the main market). Is there one at the airport? If so, where?
