Bit In Mexico. Curious from what?

I was not sure where to put this thread..
I am not complaining and there is no warning just very curious..
Is there a Doc in the house... :)

As some of you know I was bithttp://i5.tinypic.com/85p45kh.gif" alt="User image" loading="lazy"> in Mexico.. We returned home Nov. 30th
I had about 10 bites on each leg...They were quite large red and swollen and itched like crazy.. I know mosquito bites and these were not those..
The bites on my legs healed in time nicely ..I used Calamine and peroxide on them..
My girlfriend had the same type of bites and they too healed nicely.

I was also bit on my shoulder ..
They were large.. red inflamed and swollen..They itched a bit also burned.. still burn a little...
I went to the Doc. in Airdire a few weeks ago..She did not know know what the bites were from... I had told her I thought they were No see ums bites...She had not heard of No see Ums before..
The Doctor prescribed Betadermine Cream..
The cream has helped but my daughter was concerned and suggested I go to a doctor in Saskatoon.. I did..He too said I was bit but did not know from what.. He too had never heard of No see ums..... The Doctor did say the bite marks are healing OK.
I had 2 people think the bite marks were from a spider..?? One gal said her husband had returned from Mexico with the same marks on his back..
Posting this as I am curious (not Concerned) to know if anyone ever had bites like this and do you know what the critter was? http://i5.tinypic.com/85p45kh.gif" alt="User image" loading="lazy">We are planning to go to Mexico again next Nov. and I would like to know what to stay away from.. :)
This is a photo I took this morning..Jan.2nd. (My right shoulder )
Be warned gross and not pretty at all.. The dark spots are scabs... :P

Tam my daughter thinks they will scar and suggested I get a tattoo to cover the marks after they heal... :D
Any suggestions of what kind of tattoo this old gal should get... :)

Thanks... :)

Once Bitten Twice Shy
I got bitten by something in the Dominican Republic many years ago . Not sure if it was from coral I brushed against or from the freshwater pools- sand -towels - who knows ? . My stomach and ribs had bite marks that were itchy as heck . Definitely not mosquitos - I used this http://www.liceandscabies.com/scabsplash.shtml and it cleared up .
A buddy of mine got a really nasty plantar wart on his foot that took forever to get rid of . He figured he got it at a nice spa here in Canada that he and his wife stayed at . He went barefoot instead of wearing shoes or sandals in the spa area . Its so easy to pick these critters up and a real pain to treat them . Even the nicest resorts / spas/ gyms can be contaminated .
Hope your bites clear up soon Sylvia and that there are no scars .

The spider bites on the link were very nasty looking..Made me feel a lot better.. :)
I would be more concerned if my bites were getting worse but they are not..They have improved greatly..

Condor I agree :) I walked out of 2 Doctors offices not feeling very reassured but I understand that this is not something they see everyday and I thought... guess they do not hang out on Mexican message boards where one learns about No See Ums... .. Most people do not get bit when in Mexico and most people do not have the reaction that I had..
I was not in the beautiful Ocean... I prefer to swim in the pool.
We did go to the Tulum ruins and we did walk through a path in the Jungle.. I always thought that is where I was bit on the shoulder..

and
glacierroasters my first thought was bedbugs...
ruled out . they are quite common..
Thank You for the suggestion of the Emu Oil... I will check it out..I would like to prevent scarring...

Thanks all for trying to help me find out what bit me...
will see what Doctor 3 says tomorrow ..
Please get the emu oil. (do a google search)

Every person/family should have a small bottle of this-

It goes a long way..and it really really works. I have nothing to gain telling the World this..but it is an amazing, almost miracle type product, for all cuts scrapes, burns, bites...I have no idea how or why- but for 10 years it has been in our family medicine cabinet and I am constantly being amazed. (as you can tell)

good luck with the bites.
Thank You Ellen and glacierroasters :)

I decided to go see a pharmacist today instead of a Doctor...
I talked to one and she suggested I go see another one at a different Drug Store in town..
This Gal was from Texas and is very knowledgeable about Hot Climate bugs and bites..
She was most informative..
The pharmacist would put her money down on what bit me was a spider...
She said the good thing about living in our climate is that we do not have the same bug issues as they do down South..
She said that most spiders bite.

I asked her about Emu Cream.. She agreed it was a very good ... Said I would probably benefit greatly from the cream but that they were sold out ..She did have a product that had Emu in it... a diaper rash cream :D
I will look in Calgary for the pure cream and give it a try.....

I feel better kind of knowing what it was..
The pharmacist ruled out many others things that could have bit me..

anyway.. time will heal the bites and if it scars I just might get a small tattoo.. :)
and..if it does not scar I might get a tattoo anyway... :) The kids would find it a hoot so would the Grandkids..
I am pretty sure that they are sand fleas. I have had them when visiting Dominican Republic and Mexico. You do not feel them biting and because you had them mostly on your lower legs, I think that is what they are. We have even got them around the pool from the sand that people bring up from the beach on their feet. We bring lots of insect spray and have not had the problem in the last 2 years..
Sylvia, those bites looked nasty. Ouch. Hope things are clearing up for you and that the itch has subsided.
Take a gander at my ticker hehehehe

Joyce
Ellen and Weezie I guess I may never know for sure what bit me what I do know for sure is that from now on I am going to use the stinkiest bug repellent I can find ... :)

and Joyce I took a gander at your ticker.. :D
While I have been itching... time has flown..You are just about there..
We must do a count down thread for you... :)
