Calling home from PV

What is the best Calling card to call from PV to US (KC or Iowa). I want to be able to call home and check on our son while we are gone (I know its vacation - but its my first time leaving him!!)

Will we be charged if we use a calling card from our room? What is the best way?

Did you use the Telmex Card/Phone?

Where are going to be staying? I know a place where you can call home for 1.50 for 10 minutes.

mandy, send a PM to joyce and get all the details... i know that Fred and her, as well as their kids used this place all the time during their seven weeks there...

If you are out and about in downtown stop in at Cafe Roma (http://www.romamexico.com/) and have some pizza and beer and they will let you call home for free.

I thought the the free calls from Cafe Roma are just to Canada? I could be wrong.

internet cafes run from 1.50 USD for an hour to as much as 3.00 USD an hour... depends on where you are... I saw one place in old town for 1.00 USD for an hour... most are 1.50 though... and they are EVERYWHERE!

Well my experience with phones is leave you CELL at home
I took mine with a Internationl sim. Well long story
short 57 minutes = $275.00 long distance
Lesson learned get a phone card way cheaper. Take you cell but for
the most dire of emergencies

Call your cell phone provider. I have Cingular and I pay $4.99 a month for International Calling to Mx. You can put this feature on when you go down and take if off when you get back. I spent a month in PV and used my cell phone alot and my total bill was less than $100 for an entire month.

I know Verizon has a similar plan.

I have that plan to with my provider calling from Canada np Calling from a International country like MX no matter what you have to go through there servers and towers. This is what I have been told.

I called home from a little internet Cafe right next to the Marina where the cruise ships come in. It cost like 10 cents a minuite.
I also paid $1 an hour for internet use. It was great. Never had a line up!!! So uch cheaper tha the hotel!!!!

Not sure what cell service you use, but Cingular charges approx. $1/minute for international roaming. I agree with previous posts to use a Telmex card when possible but if you absolutely HAD to call the sitter before you enjoyed your margarita, a short call might be easier than trying to find a card and phone quickly....I used a combination of both when I was down in March, April and earlier this month...
