Can I use someone elses car?

Started June 8, 2009 · 4,317 views · 2 posts
I have a friend who has a US plated car he has had in PV for 4 or 5 years . He has offered it for us to use when he is not in town. Can I legally drive that car, do I need to get my own insurance for when I use it, or is it strictly owner only allowed to drive it
Thanks,

The problem usually comes in when a Mexican national tries to drive a US plated car. Your friend should know the answers to all of your questions better than anyone on here. Your friend will know or be able to check on the ins. covering you issue. The paper work your friend got when he brought the car across the border will determine the type of permit he has. If he has not been compliant in taking it back across the border when he was required to I would not drive it. If you have any problems (accident/ticket) they could impound the car. Ask your friend he knows better than any of us the status of his car and where you would stand with HIS car.
