Yeah, I agree with the posters; people there probably want cash. I myself live in an area with a big tourist industry, and we want cash; too.
The only exception I can think of is if you are going diving, biking or golfing.
Maybe the dive master/golf pro/bike mechanic or whoever would like you to bring down some gear or parts that are not available in Puerto Vallarta or are very expensive.
But that being said, during the 2002 Olympics, a journalist gave me a keychain as a tip because I showed him where the media center was. I thought that was pretty cool.
