Are their limits on what you can take back to the US from Mexico, including limits on alcohol?

I think the US limits are similar to the Canadian ones, so I will give you those as a guideline - check the US customs website for particulars.
Before you have to pay duty, your limits for bringing back to Canada are:

Alcohol - 1.4L per person max on wine, 1.14L of spirits, or 24 beers.
Cigarettes - limit of 200 cigarettespp. or 50 cigars.
Duty free personal exemption limit for Canada is $750 if you are gone 7 days or more. From 48 hours to 7 days is $200.
