I also bring along my Marriage certificate, since I took my husbands name when we got married. I think this is also required - my license has a different name on it than my birth certificate - so I bring that with to show why :)

Maybe someone can confirm that the marriage certificate is necessary.

It all depends from where you are coming from, you did not give much info to that.

Tourist \"Cards\" must be obtained by all persons visiting parts of Mexico beyond the border towns. U.S. and Canadian citizens must have (A) an official birth certificate and photo ID (e.g. a drivers license) or (B) a valid passport. Persons from countries outside of North America must have a passport. (If you do not fit into once of these categories, please call the Mexican Embassy near you to check.)

just wanted to clarify, you need both, drivers and bith certificate.
Entry not granted if you show up with only one of them.

Does anyone know the answer to the Marriage Certificate? I bring mine with - but do I need to - since I have a different name on my License than my Birth Certificate?

We have been to Mexico 12 times and have only used a birth certificate and 1 pictured I.D. We are Canadian travelling out of Detroit and have never had a problem. Maybe we are pushing our luck and a passport is the way to go. After customs stamps your tourist card make sure you put it in a safe place as you must present it to get back on the plane to come home!

Probably 99% of married women will not have their drivers license and birth certificate names match. But the birth dates and the first and middle names will match. I have traveled to PV several times a year since 1989 and never once had a problem or been questioned about the names not matching.

Get a load of this, my girlfriend that is coming with us just lost her Drivers License. We are freaking out. I called the DMV, and the airlines. They said that if she has the Temp paper ID, her Birth Cert and some form of id with a pic, costco card, college id, etc. But she has none, Im sending her to costco now. My husband suggested her highschool year book.
Any ideas out there?

Not in Canada, wish I were cause that seems so much easier. She has a Sams Club card, birth cert, paper temporary DL from DMV, and a photo copy of her DL from her GYM.

To check in at the airlines, a passenger MUST havea picture ID issured by a government agency--state, federal. Your state might have a state ID card. Check that--it might be the quickest thing available.

I spoke to a lady at Alaska airlines she said her Birth cert, a temp print out from the DMV, and as many other items with her picture on them would be ok. That the most important item is her Birth Cert.

I am worried, but what can you do?

I thought I had posted a reply to this, she does not have an actual picture ID. Im actually freaking out. I called Alaska Airlines, thats who we fly in on, and they said to have the DMV print out of her temporary ID, her birth cert, and anything with her pic id on it, she has a sams club card, a photo copy of her Id from 24 hour fitness, and an ID for cashing checks at a bank. Im hopeing that this works. They said it would that the major piece of information is the Birth Cert.
Has anyone else heard of anything that may work, we leave in 7 days. No time to expedite a passport, crazy.. Ive been told also she should take her Highschool year book, she is 21, so the picture still looks like her.

Any ideas would be great, we live in California.

Here is a thought. If you live in SoCal, you can go down to the passport office in person and spend the whole day there gettinga passport. Double check their website, but that should work. In SoCal, the passport office is located in West LA just off the 405.

If you live in NoCal, I believe that the Passport office is located in downtown San Fran.

I hope this helps, but start thinking, like there is a death in the family and you had to travel out of the ocuntry at a moments notice. The government makes all kinds of arrangements for people in this type of situation.
