Well, the Mayan Palace is definitely a 5 star resort. We loved it. Beach was incredible, and the pools (8) were interconnected and clean and fresh and wonderful. The resort had free kayaking and on the canals. This is a huge resort lots of walking. rooms were clean, lots of activities by the pool and on the beach. The food was expensive. We took the local bus into town, very easy and inexpensive (10pesos). We went to bucerias I think best for barter shopping more like little mexico. Nice little restaurant on the beach. Thunder Storms like I hae never expereinced acouple of nights cleared by morning. Absolutely loved it. Went on tropical tour, it was ok. Did not care for the downtown part of puerto vallarta. Glad be stayed in Nuevo. Took a cab into main part of nuevo 30 pesos. ate at macdonalds and domino pizza checked out the hotels paradise village and allegro. They looked very nice. hope this is helpful. jed.

I sent you a couple of emails before my trip down here but I see you got back after I left for my own trip:)
I will mirror your opinion of the Mayan Palace EXCEPT for one nasty experience I am having.
My folks gave us a timeshare suite (king bed, kitchen etc) for our wedding gift (Im on my honeymoon)
When we arrived, they had given the room away - even though we booked it 4 months ago and called about 4 different times to reconfirm.
The room they stuck us in (at first) was a ground floor 2-beds no kitchen crappy hotel room with a broken safe. Didnt even face the ocean.
At this point we have been moved into a nicer ocean view room - but it is not a suite, it is 2 beds pushed together and no kitchenette. Im very unhappy with the way we have been treated so far.
Having said that, the resort is physically fantastic, and all the service staff are wonderful. The prices are a bit high (ok, VERY high) for food but Im ok with that because it seems to be good quality.
I plan to write a full epinion (www.epinion.com ) about the experience and I dont think I can give it 5 stars - I think it is a 5 star facility with 4 star management.
