Marina Vallarta - How bad are the beaches?

I have been reading quite a bit online and in travel books that the Marina has the worst beach area in PV. We were planning on staying at the Westin, but really enjoy spending time on the beach as well as the pool. Are there any hotels with the same room/grounds quality as the Westin but with a better beach? We would really rather not go to Nuevo b/c we want to be near the action.

Tried posting this last night but it got eaten. LOL

The Velas Vallarta has quite a nice beach, pretty wide and spacious. And a gorgeous hotel to boot.

Villa del Palmar or sister property Villa del Mar has a very nice beach area. Holliday Inn next door have a very large beach that is under used. We have stayed at both the Westin and del Palmar/del Mar and much preffer the latter.

speaking of beaches i was wondering about the ocean... i was tripadvisor.com and a few ppl sed the undertow was very bad and that you ahouldnt swim in the ocean in the bay? i come form vancouver island and some of our beaches can be the same way!... any info would be nice to have thanks in advance....

I am staying at the Westin, leaving March 9th........did you go there? Is there anything you can tell me or and tips or advice? How were the beaches actually? Is it close to Hotel Zone or any good restaurants/bars/dance clubs? Thanks!

Well she did get quite a bit of sand in her swim suit, but our friends 81 year young mom had a great time rolling around in the surf on Los Muertos. LOL The bay is just like any beach, some days are good for swimming, some days are not.
